Overview

HES 9800 Series is a low-profile, Grade 1 surface-mounted electric strike designed for Adams Rite Starwheel and Interlocking rim exit devices. The one-half inch thick body of the HES 9800 has all the functions located internally and is designed with the cover plate enclosing all of the mounting hardware to provide a safe, clean, and tamper-resistant surface. The 9800 can be installed straight onto the frame with no cutting, so it is a no-cut surface strike solution for retrofits and new construction.

This heavy-duty strike exceeds Grade 1 standards for strength and durability, with a 1,500 lb static holding force and 70 ft–lb dynamic impact resistance. It is tested to withstand over 1,000,000 cycles of operation for unrivaled reliability in high-traffic openings. The device is field-selectable for fail-safe or fail-secure mode, allowing flexibility to choose secure locking on power loss or unlocking for life-safety, as needed. It supports dual-voltage 12/24 VDC input with a low current draw (450 mA at 12 VDC; 250 mA at 24 VDC) for efficient integration with standard power supplies.


Installation

Installation is straightforward: simply surface-mount the strike on the frame and align it with the exit device’s starwheel or interlocking latchbolt – no frame modifications or special faceplates required. The 9800 comes with two spacer plates (1/16″ and 1/8″) to accommodate various door gaps, ensuring proper latch engagement on aluminum, hollow metal, or wood frames. An adjustable horizontal alignment feature helps fine-tune the strike position for perfect locking engagement. The unit is fully non-handed, enabling installation on either right-hand or left-hand doors without modification.
