The HES 9700 Series Surface-Mounted Electric Strike brings Grade 1 strength, wind-storm resistance, and a no-cut installation to doors equipped with Corbin Russwin SecureBolt or Yale/ASSA ABLOY SquareBolt rim exit devices. Its slim 3/4-inch stainless-steel case installs entirely on the frame, delivering fast retrofits without weakening fire-rated openings. By combining 2,000 lb holding force with field-selectable fail-secure or fail-safe operation, the 9700 protects hospitals, schools, and commercial campuses that demand both life-safety egress and hardened security.
Built from all-stainless steel and endurance-tested to 1 million cycles, the strike exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1 and is certified for UL 1034 burglary resistance, UL 10C 3-hour fire doors (fail-secure), and ANSI/SDI A250.13 windstorm applications. A dual-voltage coil (12/24 VDC) draws just 0.5 A at 12 V or 0.25 A at 24 V, while an adjustable mounting base lets installers shift the keeper horizontally to align the SquareBolt latch without shims. Optional Latchbolt Monitor (LBM) and Latchbolt-Strike Monitor (LBSM) switches provide real-time door and lock status to any access-control panel.
Because the 9700 mounts on the surface of hollow-metal, aluminum, or wood frames without cutting, it is an excellent retrofit choice for fire-rated or architectural frames where preserving structural integrity is critical. Typical deployments include health-care facilities, K-12 or higher-education buildings, data centers, and government sites that already use—or are upgrading to—SquareBolt rim exits for high security and windstorm compliance. The non-handed design fits left- or right-swinging doors, and the stainless cover options (605, 606, 612, 613, 629, 630, BSP) suit nearly any décor.
Compared with the HES 9500/9600 surface-mounted strikes for standard ¾-inch latch-bolt devices, the 9700 is purpose-built for SquareBolt geometry and delivers higher static strength (2,000 lb vs. 1,500 lb) plus windstorm certification out of the box. Facilities that already standardize on SecureBolt or SquareBolt exits gain seamless compatibility without the spacer kits or face-plate changes required by general-purpose strikes—saving labor and reducing parts inventory.
