Capacitive Buttons

Touch Sense Plates

A capacitive touch plate releases a lock when someone touches it, with nothing to push, click, or wear out. Because there are no moving parts, the plate holds up in high-traffic doorways where mechanical buttons eventually stick or fail, and the large flat target is easy to use for people carrying things or with limited hand strength.

The SP-1 uses patented touch sensing technology to detect a hand on the plate and send a release signal to the lock or access control system. A red LED in the back box confirms activation, and a three-part vinyl decal labels the plate. The plate is oversized so it can mount over an existing single-gang cutout, which makes it a clean replacement for a worn push button without patching the wall. The SP-1L provides a label version, and the SP-1LH carries an accessibility decal for doors on an accessible route. Like any request-to-exit device, a touch plate is typically paired with a timer or a lock controller that holds the release long enough to pass through, and on maglocked egress doors it complements rather than replaces the code-required manual release button.
