The Schlage HL6-9082 combines HL6 push/pull hardware with the Schlage L Series heavy duty mortise lock in the 9082 institution function (ANSI F30). The latchbolt is retracted by key from either side, and the paddle on both sides is always inoperative. The door is secured in both directions and passage through it always requires a key.

This is the most restrictive function in the HL6 mortise line, specified where movement has to be controlled in both directions rather than only entry. Because neither paddle retracts the latch, this function does not provide free egress. It must only be used on openings where controlled egress is permitted, and never where building or life safety codes require free egress. Confirm the application with your authority having jurisdiction before specifying it.

An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed. The rest is standard HL6 mortise: a 3/4 inch throw stainless steel latchbolt, an ASA strike, a UL Listing for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft, and dampened paddle action giving a proven 50 percent quieter operation than the previous generation, in 10 finishes including antimicrobial 626AM and 630AM.

Features

  • Institution function - latchbolt retracted by key from either side.
  • Paddle on both sides always inoperative, so the door is secured in both directions.

  • Auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed.
  • Schlage L Series heavy duty mortise lock case behind HL6 push/pull trim.
  • 3/4 inch throw stainless steel latchbolt.
  • 50 percent quieter paddle operation than the previous generation.
  • Non-handed, with five mounting positions.
  • ASA strike standard, with a bent tab strike available.
  • UL Listed for 3 hour fire doors, 4 ft by 10 ft, on single labeled metal or wood doors.

Ordering Guide

Order Sequence
Product and function, finish, option, engraving, strike. Example: HL6-9082, 626AM, SOC, E1, BT. The mortise backset is left blank because it is always 2-3/4 inch
Finishes
605 bright brass (US3); 606 satin brass (US4); 612 satin bronze (US10); 613 oil rubbed bronze (US10B); 625 bright chrome (US26); 626 satin chrome (US26D); 626AM satin chrome antimicrobial; 629 bright stainless steel (US32); 630 satin stainless steel (US32D); 630AM satin stainless steel antimicrobial
B
Brass base material, for the 626 finish, where required by specification
EN / EO
Entrance only supplies the pull handle only; exit only supplies the push handle only. Both leave a single paddle, so confirm the arrangement against the locking function before ordering
L
Lead lining - lead components cover the cut-outs made in lead lined doors
SOC
Pin-in-socket security screws supplied in place of standard screws for the strike, latchbolt, and covers
Strike Codes
Leave blank for the standard ASA strike, or specify BT for the bent tab strike
Engraving
E1 push up, pull down. E2 push up, pull up. E5 push down, pull up. E6 push down, pull down. E3 horizontal engraving, right hand. E4 horizontal engraving, left hand

Applications

Designed For
Openings where movement must be controlled in both directions and controlled egress is permitted
Before Specifying
Confirm with your authority having jurisdiction that a controlled egress function is acceptable on the opening. Where free egress is required, choose the 9080 storeroom or another HL6 function instead

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 9082 mean?
It is the Schlage mortise lock function: 9082 institution, ANSI F30. The latchbolt is retracted by key from either side and neither paddle operates the latch.
Can people get out without a key?
No. This is the important difference from every other HL6 function. The paddle on both sides is always inoperative, so this function does not provide free egress. Specify it only where controlled egress is permitted, and confirm with your authority having jurisdiction first.
How is this different from the 9080 storeroom?
Direction. The 9080 secures the door against entry but the inside paddle is always free for immediate egress. The 9082 secures it in both directions, requiring a key to pass either way.
How many cylinders does it need?
It is keyed from both sides, so a mortise cylinder is required on each side of the door. Tell us your keyway and whether the cylinders should be keyed to an existing system and we will confirm them with the order.
What are the paddles for if they do not open the door?
They serve as pulls on both faces and keep the opening visually consistent with the rest of the HL6 hardware in the building. The latch itself is retracted only by key.
What does the auxiliary latch do?
It deadlocks the latchbolt once the door is closed, so the latch cannot be pushed back out of the strike.
Which HL6 mortise function do I want?
9010 never locks. 9040 is thumbturn privacy. 9050 locks by key or thumbturn. 9060 locks by key from inside. 9070 locks by key from outside. 9080 is always locked to the outside with free egress. 9082 is keyed from both sides with no free egress.
Can it go on a fire door?
The hardware is UL Listed for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft on single labeled metal or wood doors. Whether a controlled egress function is acceptable on a given fire rated opening is a code question for your authority having jurisdiction.
Is it handed?
The hardware is non-handed and mounts in five positions. Note that the E3 and E4 horizontal engraving codes are handed, so specify right or left hand for those.
