The Schlage HL6-9080 combines HL6 push/pull hardware with the Schlage L Series heavy duty mortise lock in the 9080 storeroom function (ANSI F07). The outside paddle is always inoperable. The latchbolt is retracted by the inside paddle or by key from outside, and there is no lock or unlock state to set - the door is simply always secured against entry.

That makes it the specification for supply rooms, clean and soiled utility, medication and equipment storage, server rooms, and any space where entry should always require a key and nobody should be able to leave it standing unlocked. Because the outside paddle never retracts the latch, the door cannot be accidentally left open to anyone without a key.

Exit is unaffected. The inside paddle is always free for immediate egress, and its short throw angle opens the door with an easy push even when hands are not free, which matters when staff leave a supply room carrying loads. An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed.

The rest is standard HL6 mortise: a 3/4 inch throw stainless steel latchbolt, an ASA strike, a UL Listing for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft, and dampened paddle action giving a proven 50 percent quieter operation than the previous generation, in 10 finishes including antimicrobial 626AM and 630AM.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 9080 mean?
It is the Schlage mortise lock function: 9080 storeroom, ANSI F07. The outside paddle is always inoperable and the latch is retracted by the inside paddle or by key from outside.
How is this different from the 9070 classroom?
The 9070 can be locked and unlocked by key, so the door can be left in an unlocked state. The 9080 has no unlocked state - the outside paddle never retracts the latch, so entry always requires a key.
Can people inside still get out?
Yes. The inside paddle is always free for immediate egress, and it works hands free, which matters when staff are leaving a supply room carrying loads.
So what is the outside paddle for?
It serves as the pull for the door. It does not retract the latch, which is done with the key from outside.
Does it need a cylinder?
Yes. The 9080 is key operated from outside, so a mortise cylinder is part of the opening. Tell us your keyway and whether the cylinder should be keyed to an existing system, and we will confirm it with the order.
What does the auxiliary latch do?
It deadlocks the latchbolt once the door is closed, so the latch cannot be pushed back out of the strike from outside.
Which HL6 mortise function do I want?
9010 never locks. 9040 is thumbturn privacy. 9050 locks by key or thumbturn. 9060 locks by key from inside. 9070 locks by key from outside. 9080 is always locked to the outside.
Is it handed?
The hardware is non-handed and mounts in five positions - handles down, handles up, one up and one down, or pointing away from the latch. Note that the E3 and E4 horizontal engraving codes are handed, so specify right or left hand for those.
Can it go on a fire door?
Yes. It is UL Listed for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft on single labeled metal or wood doors.
Will it fit my door?
It is made for 1-3/4 inch doors on a 2-3/4 inch backset. Other thicknesses are available from Schlage on request, so contact us if your door differs.
