The HL6-9060 combines HL6 push/pull hardware with the Schlage L Series heavy duty mortise lock in the 9060 apartment entrance function (ANSI F09). The latchbolt is retracted by the paddle from either side until the outside is locked by key from the inside. Once locked, the latchbolt is retracted by key or by the inside paddle.

Locking by key rather than by thumbturn is the point of this function. Nobody can secure the door by simply flipping a turn on the way past, so the opening cannot be casually locked by a passer-by or a patient - it takes a keyholder. That suits apartment style entrances, resident rooms, and any door where control of the locked state needs to sit with staff rather than with whoever is standing closest.

An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed, and the inside paddle is always free for immediate egress regardless of lock state. The rest is standard HL6 mortise: a 3/4 inch throw stainless steel latchbolt, an ASA strike, a UL Listing for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft, and dampened paddle action giving a proven 50 percent quieter operation than the previous generation, in 10 finishes including antimicrobial 626AM and 630AM.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 9060 mean?
It is the Schlage mortise lock function: 9060 apartment entrance, ANSI F09. The outside is locked by key from the inside.
How is this different from the 9050?
The thumbturn. The 9050 entrance and office function locks by key or inside thumbturn. The 9060 has no thumbturn - it locks by key from the inside only. Choose 9060 when you do not want the door lockable by anyone without a key.
Can I still get out when it is locked?
Yes. The inside paddle is always free for immediate egress, whatever the lock state. Locking only stops entry from outside.
Does it need cylinders?
Yes. The 9060 is key operated with no thumbturn, so mortise cylinders are part of the opening. Tell us your keyway and whether the cylinders should be keyed to an existing system, and we will confirm the right cylinders and how many with your order.
Which HL6 mortise function do I want?
9010 passage never locks. 9040 is bath and bedroom privacy, thumbturn only, releasing when the door closes. 9050 entrance and office locks by key or thumbturn and holds. 9060 locks by key from the inside only.
What does the auxiliary latch do?
It deadlocks the latchbolt once the door is closed, so the latch cannot be pushed back out of the strike from outside.
Is it handed?
The hardware is non-handed and mounts in five positions - handles down, handles up, one up and one down, or pointing away from the latch. Note that the E3 and E4 horizontal engraving codes are handed, so specify right or left hand for those.
Can it go on a fire door?
Yes. It is UL Listed for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft on single labeled metal or wood doors.
Will it fit my door?
It is made for 1-3/4 inch doors on a 2-3/4 inch backset. Other thicknesses are available from Schlage on request, so contact us if your door differs.
