The Securitron EEB2 Emergency Exit Button is a single-gang, stainless steel push-to-exit device with an integrated 30-second release timer, designed to provide backup egress control for electromagnetic door locks. Featuring a 2-inch square push button, field-selectable 12/24 VDC operation, and 3A normally closed switching contacts, the EEB2 releases the connected magnetic lock for at least 30 seconds when activated. Its retriggerable timer, interchangeable green, red, and blue ADA-symbol lenses, and UL 294 listing support emergency exit applications where a redundant manual release is required alongside a motion-based request-to-exit sensor.

Securitron EEB2 Emergency Exit Button with 30-Second Timer, Single-Gang Stainless Steel

The Securitron EEB2 Emergency Exit Button is a manually operated, timed door release device designed to provide a redundant means of unlocking electromagnetic locks on access-controlled egress doors. Manufactured by Securitron, an ASSA ABLOY brand, the EEB2 combines a 2-inch square push button, integrated 30-second release timer, and stainless steel single-gang mounting plate in a compact assembly intended for installation near secured exits. The device is specifically engineered to supplement a primary motion-based request-to-exit sensor, such as the Securitron XMS Motion Sensor, by allowing occupants to release a magnetic lock manually if the automatic exit sensor fails or does not detect movement. Its timed-release operation supports access-controlled egress arrangements in commercial offices, educational buildings, healthcare facilities, institutional properties, and other buildings equipped with appropriately designed electromagnetic locking systems.

The EEB2 operates on 12 or 24 VDC with field-selectable voltage configuration, allowing the device to match the operating voltage of the connected magnetic lock. The unit ships with its internal voltage-selection jumper installed for 12 VDC operation; removing the jumper configures the device for 24 VDC operation. According to Securitron's June 2025 product literature, operating current is approximately 28 mA at 12 VDC and 26 mA at 24 VDC. The integrated switching circuit provides a 3A-rated normally closed relay output designed to interrupt power to a compatible electromagnetic lock during an exit request. A momentary press initiates a 30-second lock release interval, allowing the door to be opened without maintaining pressure on the button. Pressing the button again before the timer expires restarts the full release interval, extending the available exit time. The manufacturer's operating instructions specify that the actual timed release may vary with temperature but will not be less than 30 seconds. The EEB2 does not require an external timing module because the release timer is incorporated into the device.

The Securitron EEB2 features a brushed stainless steel single-gang faceplate measuring approximately 4-1/2 inches high by 2-3/4 inches wide, with a large 2-inch square actuator positioned for convenient manual operation. The device includes interchangeable green, red, and blue ADA-symbol button lenses, allowing installers to select the visual identification appropriate for the application. Green and red lenses provide clearly identifiable push-to-exit markings, while the blue lens incorporates an accessibility symbol. The assembly is intended for indoor installation and operates within a published temperature range of approximately 32 F to 110 F (0 C to 43 C). Its single-gang format accommodates conventional electrical box installations, while the internal timer and switching components require sufficient enclosure clearance. Electrical connections are provided through color-coded conductors for positive supply voltage, DC negative, lock power output, and timer switching. An optional Securitron PB2-LK illumination kit is available for installations requiring an illuminated button. The EEB2 is supplied as a complete emergency exit button assembly with its mounting hardware and interchangeable lenses, but it does not include the electromagnetic lock, request-to-exit motion sensor, or access control power supply.

The EEB2 is designed for integration with compatible Securitron Magnalocks and access-controlled egress systems where emergency manual release must remain available independently of normal access authorization. In a typical installation, a motion-based request-to-exit detector provides automatic release when an occupant approaches the door, while the EEB2 acts as a separate manual backup release device. The button is installed in the magnetic lock power circuit according to the manufacturer's wiring diagrams so that activation interrupts lock power for the required release interval. Securitron specifies that the EEB2 must use the same power source as the connected magnetic lock, with correct voltage-jumper configuration required to prevent electrical damage. The device is intended for exit-side operation and is not a standalone door access controller, credential reader, or mechanical panic device. Its manual release function can support applicable International Building Code (IBC), NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and access-controlled egress requirements when incorporated into a properly engineered and code-compliant door assembly. Securitron documents ANSI/UL 294 access control certification, CSA C22.2 No. 205 listing, and California State Fire Marshal recognition for the EEB Series. The EEB2 is also supported by Securitron's MagnaCare lifetime replacement, no-fault manufacturer warranty, subject to applicable warranty terms.

Compared with the Securitron EEB3N, which uses a narrower 1-3/4-inch stainless steel mounting plate for aluminum door frames and narrow-stile applications, the EEB2 uses a standard single-gang plate with a larger 2-inch square actuator. Both devices incorporate a retriggerable 30-second release timer and are intended for use as backup manual release controls for electromagnetic locks. Unlike standard Securitron PB Series momentary push buttons, the EEB2 automatically maintains the lock release interval after the user releases the actuator, eliminating the need for a separate external timer in the intended application. The optional PB2-LK illumination kit provides additional visual identification without changing the EEB2's fundamental timed-release function. For replacement installations and new access-controlled egress projects, installers must verify the magnetic lock's voltage and current requirements, available electrical box clearance, wiring configuration, and applicable local fire and building codes. Proper mounting and periodic functional testing are essential to confirm that the EEB2 reliably releases the connected electromagnetic lock for the required duration.
