Conventional

Conventional Beam Smoke Detection

Conventional beam detectors connect to a conventional fire alarm panel over a 4-wire circuit and report alarm and trouble through relay contacts, with no addressable loop required. System Sensor's reflected-type units, the BEAM1224 and its integral-sensitivity-test sibling the BEAM1224S, along with the OSI-R-SS, put transmitter and receiver in one housing and bounce an infrared beam off a reflector on the far wall, so wiring runs to only one end of the protected span.

The detector alarms when smoke obscures the beam past a selectable threshold and compensates automatically for slow signal changes from dust and building movement, which cuts nuisance alarms in warehouses, atriums, gymnasiums, auditoriums, and houses of worship where ceilings are too high for spot detectors. Models with integral sensitivity testing and the RTS151 series stations let the required functional test be run from floor level.

See the individual beam detectors, and the mounting, heating, long-range, and test station options under beam accessories. Browse the full System Sensor catalog, or contact our team to confirm range and panel compatibility.
