Request-to-Exit Motion Sensors

A request-to-exit motion sensor mounts above a door on the secure side and releases the lock as someone walks up to leave. On maglocked access-controlled egress doors it is one of the two release methods life safety codes generally require, and it is what makes the door feel normal to use: people walk toward the door and it simply opens. The same signal can shunt the door alarm so a legitimate exit is not reported as a forced door.

The XMS is Securitron's passive infrared exit sensor, designed specifically to initiate door release rather than adapted from an intrusion detector. Its adjustable detector face lets the installer shape the detection pattern to cover the approach to the door while ignoring traffic passing by, which reduces unwanted releases in busy corridors. It operates on 12 or 24 VDC, and its relay output both releases the lock and shunts the alarm. Because a motion sensor alone does not satisfy egress codes on maglocked doors, pair it with a manual push-to-exit button that releases the lock for at least 30 seconds, such as an emergency exit button with a built-in timer.
