Shear Magnets
Shear Aligning Magnalocks
A shear lock hides the magnet inside the header, door edge, or threshold, so nothing is visible on the face of the opening. That makes it the choice for architecturally sensitive entrances, lobbies with frameless glass, and double-acting doors where a surface lock would be in the way. Instead of resisting a straight pull, the armature is drawn into the magnet as the door closes and holds against the sideways force of someone pushing or pulling the door, with a self-aligning design that brings the parts into position.
The SAM is the standard model: 1,200 pounds of holding force, automatic sensing of 12 or 24 VDC, and support for sliding, in-swing, out-swing, and swinging doors, mounting fully concealed into wood, steel, aluminum, or Herculite doors. The SAMD adds a door position switch, the SAMB adds the BondSTAT magnetic bond sensor, and the SAMBD combines both, so the access control system knows the door is closed and that the lock has genuinely engaged. For smaller openings such as cabinets and sliding closet doors, the SAM2 series delivers 600 pounds in a mini concealed housing, including the 24 volt SAM2-24. Shear locks need accurate installation and a door that closes consistently, so plan for proper door closers and alignment.
