Unlike conventional surface-mounted electromagnetic locks that rely primarily on direct magnetic attraction, the SAM incorporates a self-aligning shear-locking mechanism that engages as the door closes and the armature aligns with the recessed magnet assembly. The Securitron SAM operates on 12 or 24 VDC with automatic voltage sensing, eliminating the need for manual voltage adjustment during installation. The magnet assembly measures approximately 10-7/8 inches long, 1-3/16 inches deep, and 1-1/2 inches wide, with a corresponding armature assembly measuring 10-7/8 inches long, 1-7/16 inches deep, and 1-1/2 inches wide. A factory-supplied 10-foot (3.05-meter) jacketed, stranded conductor cable supports electrical connections to the access control system. Optional Securitron SMLS and SMSS mounting housings accommodate applications where conventional recessed mounting is impractical.
