A modern security system is mostly one device. The panel, the keypad, the wireless receiver, the sounder, the automation hub, and the reporting radio all live behind a single seven-inch touchscreen, and the rest of the install is sensors. That consolidation is why these systems took over residential and small commercial work: fewer parts, far less wire, and a shorter path from box to functioning system.

Current platforms pair the panel with encrypted wireless sensors, which closes the replay and spoofing weaknesses of older unencrypted radio, and add Wi-Fi plus cellular reporting so the system stays connected without a phone line. Built-in Z-Wave lets the same panel control lighting and locks, and video from connected cameras can appear on the panel screen. The ProSeries PROA7 and PROA7PLUS are the seven-inch all-in-one panels in this line, sold in both Honeywell and Resideo branded versions. Around the panel sit the parts that finish an install: the 6290W color touchscreen keypad for a second floor, transformers and power leads, backup batteries sized to the required standby period, and converters that bring existing hardwired zones onto the new system.
