Cypress Reader Extenders, OSDP Tools and Wiegand Interfaces

Cypress solves the wiring problems between a reader and the panel it reports to: reader extenders that carry a credential over fiber, Ethernet, RS-485 or radio, OSDP and Wiegand converters that let old and new equipment talk, signal splitters and isolators, wireless handheld readers and synchronized time displays. Browse the full Cypress catalog below, or shop wired reader extenders, wireless reader extenders, OSDP converters and Wiegand splitters.

Suprex Reader Extenders

A reader extender puts a reader far beyond the cable limit a panel normally allows. The Suprex family is listed by communication link: fiber optic in multi-mode and single-mode with ST connectors, Ethernet, and RS-485 twisted pair, all supporting 4 to 248 bits.

Each is supplied as a remote and central unit pair, with supervised single door and gate versions listed for an opening that has to report tamper and status back. Replacement remote, central and board only parts are listed for service. An expansion module provides additional door and panel interface points to most SPX products.

Wireless Reader Extenders

Where no cable can be run, wireless reader extenders carry the same signal over a 2.4 GHz radio link at ranges up to 5000 feet. Wireless Wiegand bridges are listed for one reader and its door or gate hardware, with an integral antenna version and a dipole antenna version for longer range.

A repeater is listed for line-of-sight problems or extra distance, and a weatherproof single supervised reader extender with a chip antenna covers an outdoor gate.

OSDP Converters and Test Tools

OSDP is the replacement for Wiegand, and most of this catalog exists because sites run both. Converters are listed in both directions: OSDP reader to legacy Wiegand panel, and Wiegand reader to OSDP control panel, with I/O versions that add inputs and outputs at the door.

Test tools cover a pocket OSDP COMSET configuration tool for readers and peripheral devices, an OSDP trace tool converting the RS-485 bus to USB for the Cypress software, a cable test tool for checking existing cable before committing to OSDP, a 7 port OSDP hub with pluggable terminal blocks, and a complete OSDP tool kit. Data splitters take one OSDP input to two OSDP outputs, or to one OSDP and one Wiegand output.

Wiegand Splitters and Converters

Wiegand splitters connect one reader to two access control panels. Passive optical isolators are listed alongside intelligent splitters that create two unique Wiegand outputs from a single input, and isolation modules that separate different Wiegand signal sources on the same bus.

A Wiegand signal standardizer converts non-standard Wiegand readers to standard signaling, and data format converters support many different input and output formats with preconfigured conversions. Data wedges and USB keyboard wedges output Wiegand or OSDP credentials to a computer as keystrokes.

Wireless Handheld Readers

Wireless handheld readers verify credentials by wirelessly communicating with a live database, which is what a muster point, a stadium gate or a temporary entrance needs when no fixed reader exists.

Kits are listed in low frequency at 125KHz, high frequency at 13.56MHz and dual frequency covering both, in single lane and dual lane, in grey and white, with HID iCLASS and prox support. The newest kits carry wireless OSDP Secure Channel with AES-128 encryption. Charging docks and charging cords are listed separately.

Time Displays and Interfaces

Synchronized display clocks show the time from a master clock panel or an access control system, listed with 4 inch high-intensity LED digits for an indoor wall. They need a CCX time display driver, which is listed separately with an RS-232 panel interface and an RS-485 display interface.

Reader interface modules cover Ethernet and serial versions connecting one reader and its door or gate hardware at up to 10000 feet. A barcode scanner is listed bundled with a data format converter, and 12VDC plug-in power adapters are listed for the smaller modules.
