The Potter RBVS is a universal retrofit ball valve and solenoid coil supervisory switch designed to monitor valve position and solenoid coil removal in fire sprinkler systems. Compatible with most 1/2-inch to 2-inch lever-handle and tee-handle ball valves, it uses a spring-loaded actuator to detect movement from the supervised open or closed position. The UL/cUL Listed and FM Approved switch features an SPDT Form C contact rated 10.1A at 125VAC or 2A at 30VDC, a corrosion-resistant NEMA 4 (IP66) enclosure, and adjustable mounting hardware for fire sprinkler supervisory applications.

The Potter RBVS Universal Ball Valve and Solenoid Coil Supervisory Switch provides mechanical supervision of critical valve and solenoid components in commercial and industrial fire sprinkler systems. Designed for retrofit installation, the RBVS monitors the normal open or closed position of ball valves ranging from 1/2 inch to 2 inches, including valves installed on backflow preventers and alarm trim piping associated with wet, dry, preaction, and deluge sprinkler systems. Its spring-loaded actuator contacts the valve handle when the valve is in its designated supervised position. When the handle moves away from that position, the actuator extends and changes the state of the internal electrical contacts, allowing a compatible fire alarm control panel to register a supervisory condition. This arrangement provides valve-position supervision without replacing the existing valve.

The RBVS incorporates a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) Form C supervisory switch with normally open, normally closed, and common terminals for connection to compatible fire alarm supervisory circuits. The manufacturer's electrical specifications identify a 10.1A contact rating at 125VAC and 2A at 30VDC for resistive loads. The switch is mechanically actuated and does not require a dedicated operating power supply to change contact state. Its spring-loaded plunger automatically returns to the normal position when the monitored valve handle is restored to its designated position. The RBVS is also designed to detect removal of the solenoid coil on compatible preaction and deluge releasing valves. The device operates within a temperature range of -40 F to 150 F (-40 C to 65 C) and incorporates tamper-resistant cover fasteners that require the supplied specialty key for removal. An optional Potter 0090224 cover tamper switch kit adds electrical supervision of enclosure cover removal, while the standard mounting arrangement is designed to cause a supervisory condition if the device is displaced from its installed position. The RBVS accepts conductors up to 12 AWG and includes a knockout for a 1/2-inch conduit connection. Its construction supports demanding sprinkler equipment environments but is not approved for hazardous classified locations.

The RBVS includes multiple clamp and bracket mounting configurations to accommodate lever-handle ball valves, tee-handle ball valves, backflow-preventer assemblies, and compatible solenoid valve coils. The supplied hardware includes small and large V-shaped mounting clamps, rubber clamp grippers, adjustable L-shaped mounting brackets, an extension bracket, an offset bracket, and solenoid coil mounting components. The adjustable mounting system allows installation directly on the valve body, an adjacent pipe section, or a suitable solenoid assembly without modifying the sprinkler piping. The Potter RBVS is UL/cUL Listed and FM Approved for applicable fire sprinkler supervisory applications and is intended for use with compatible fire alarm monitoring equipment.
