Switching Power Supplies

Switching power supplies are the everyday choice for powering electric locks, strikes, and readers in access control: compact, efficient, and able to run from a wide AC input range. They also provide what a code-compliant lock circuit needs, including Class 2 power-limited outputs, battery charging for standby, and a fire alarm input that drops lock power when the building goes into alarm.

The part number describes the unit. AQD models are dual voltage, field selectable for 12 or 24 VDC, and AQS models are single voltage. The number after the prefix is the output current, so an AQD1 is a 1 amp supply and an AQS1210 is a 12 volt, 10 amp supply. A B suffix identifies the power board alone for installation in an existing enclosure. Output options follow a dash: C models such as the AQD4-4C1 split the supply into independently protected PTC outputs, four at 1 amp in that case, while F models use fuse-protected outputs, and R adds fire transfer relays. Multi-output versions let each door or device run on its own protected circuit, so a short on one lock does not take down the rest of the panel. Protection against over-current, thermal runaway, and reverse battery connection is built in, and supervised models report AC loss and battery condition.
