Mortise & Tubular Keyswitches
A keyswitch gives electrical control to anyone with the right key. It is how staff override an electric lock during business hours, arm or disarm an alarm zone, reset a delayed egress door, or shunt a door alarm, all without giving everyone access to a panel. The type of cylinder and the switch action determine where each keyswitch fits.
Mortise keyswitches accept a standard mortise cylinder from 1-1/8 to 1-1/2 inches, so the key can match the building's existing master key system. Part numbers describe the function: MK models are momentary, releasing only while the key is turned, while A models such as the MKA are alternate action, staying in position until turned back. A 2 adds double pole, double throw contacts, so the MKA2 is an alternate action DPDT keyswitch, N marks narrow stile plates for storefront frames, and PZ adds an audible piezo. S models add a second switch activated by turning the key the opposite way, and MKC-KA cylinders provide a keyed alike option. Tubular keyswitches such as the KP1 suit lighter-duty control, with an SPDT switch, 7 amp contacts, and a bicolor LED indicator on a single-gang plate, and they come in alternate and narrow stile versions as well.
