The Schlage ND25 is the exit lock with exterior blank plate function of the ND Series, Schlage heavy duty Grade 1 cylindrical lock. There is no lever on the outside at all - just a blank plate. Inside there is a lever and a deadlatch, and the latch is retracted by the inside lever only, which stays free for immediate egress.
It is non-keyed, so with a blank plate outside and no cylinder, there is no way to open the door from outside by any means. That is the function. Use it on stair discharge doors, service exits, and back of house openings where entry is meant to happen somewhere else and you do not even want a lever on the outside face suggesting otherwise.
The ND Series margin over the standard applies to the working side. It resists 3,100 in-lb of abusive lever torque, over 690 lbs at the end of a 4-1/2 inch lever and 2.6 times the BHMA requirement, shows near zero droop and wobble after 16 million cycles (16x BHMA) with no set screws or O-rings, and retracts the latch under 200 lb preload for warped and preloaded doors (4x BHMA).
The inside lever comes in nine designs across nine finishes plus a 626AM antimicrobial coating, with a 10 year mechanical warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does ND25 mean?
- It is the Schlage function code for the exit lock with exterior blank plate. There is a blank plate outside, a lever inside, and a deadlatch.
- Can I get in from outside?
- No. There is no outside lever and no cylinder, only a blank plate, so the door cannot be opened from outside by any means. Entry has to happen at another opening.
- Can people always get out?
- Yes. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress, which is the entire purpose of the function.
- How is this different from the ND12 exit lock?
- What is on the outside face. The ND12 has a fixed lever outside that acts as a pull but does not retract the latch. The ND25 has a blank plate and no lever at all. Neither opens from outside. Choose ND12 when the door still needs an outside pull, ND25 when it should not have one.
- Can I get a request to exit signal?
- Not on this function. Schlage offers RX on the ND10, ND12, ND80, ND81, and ND96, and the ND25 is not among them. If you need an exit signal on an exit lock, specify the ND12 instead.
- Is there a keyed version?
- Yes, two. The ND25 x 70 classroom exit lock (ANSI F113) and the ND25 x 80 storeroom exit lock (ANSI F112) both keep the blank plate outside and add a cylinder in the inside lever.
- Why a deadlatch?
- A deadlatch resists the latch being pushed back out of the strike from outside, which matters on a door with no outside operation at all.
- Does the lever choice matter for code?
- It can. For the California Fire Code, levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply, which covers Rhodes, Sparta, Tubular, Omega, Longitude, and Boardwalk. Confirm the lever design against your local requirements.
- Can it go on a fire door?
- Yes. It is UL 10C and CAN/ULC-S104 listed for a 3 hour A label single fire door up to 4 ft by 10 ft. Pairs are covered at 8 ft by 8 ft for 3 hours, or 8 ft by 10 ft for 90 minutes, with the 3/4 inch latch option.
- What door thicknesses and backsets does it fit?
- Standard is 1-5/8 to 2-1/8 inch doors on a 2-3/4 inch backset. Optional configurations cover 1-3/8 inch up to 6 inch doors, and 2-3/8, 3-3/4, and 5 inch backsets.
