The Schlage HL6-9095EL combines HL6 push/pull hardware with the Schlage L Series heavy duty mortise lock in an electrified institution function that controls both paddles, with cylinders on the inside and outside. It is the electrified counterpart to the 9082 institution lock, putting movement in both directions under access control.
The EL suffix means both paddles are held continuously locked while energized at 12 or 24 VDC. In that state the latchbolt is retracted by either key, inside or outside. On a switch or power failure both paddles unlock and the paddle is allowed to retract the latchbolt, so the opening reverts to free passage in both directions.
Because both paddles are locked while energized, this function does not provide free egress in its normal operating state. Passage in either direction requires a key while power is applied. Specify it only on openings where controlled egress is permitted, and confirm the application with your authority having jurisdiction before it goes on a door.
An auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed, and the optional RX request to exit switch is available on electrified functions. The rest is standard HL6 mortise: a 3/4 inch throw stainless steel latchbolt, an ASA strike, a UL Listing for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft, and dampened paddle action giving a proven 50 percent quieter operation, in 10 finishes including antimicrobial 626AM and 630AM.

Specifications
Electrified Operation
- Function
- Electrically locked both sides, inside and outside cylinder
- EL Behavior
- Both paddles continuously locked while energized
- On Power Loss
- A switch or power failure unlocks both paddles and allows the paddle to retract the latchbolt
- Voltage
- 12 VDC or 24 VDC
- Key Override
- Latchbolt retracted by either key, inside or outside
- Egress
- This function does not provide free egress while energized. Passage in either direction requires a key in that state. Specify only where controlled egress is permitted by the applicable codes and the authority having jurisdiction
- EU Alternative
- The HL6-9095EU is the reverse: both paddles are continuously unlocked while energized, and a switch or power failure locks both paddles
- Request to Exit
- RX option available on electrified functions
- Power Supply
- Supplied separately. Confirm voltage and current requirements with your access control design
General
- Type
- Mortise push/pull hardware, electrified institution function
- Auxiliary Latch
- Deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed
- Keying
- Cylinders on both sides, so mortise cylinders are part of the opening inside and outside. Confirm cylinders, keyway, and keying with your order
- Lock Case
- Schlage L Series heavy duty mortise lock

- 3/4 inch throw stainless steel
- Backset
- 2-3/4 inch only

Mounting Positions
- Available Positions
- Handles down; handles up; one handle up and one handle down (push or pull); handles point away from latch
- Note
- Specify the mounting position with the order so the hardware arrives oriented for the opening
Ordering Guide
- Order Sequence
- Product and function, finish, option, engraving, strike. Example: HL6-9095EL, 626AM, RX, E1, BT. The mortise backset is left blank because it is always 2-3/4 inch

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does this function do?
- It puts both paddles under access control. While energized, both are locked, and the latchbolt is retracted by either key, inside or outside.
- Can people get out without a key while it is powered?
- No. Both paddles are locked while energized, so this function does not provide free egress in that state. It is intended only for openings where controlled egress is permitted. Confirm with your authority having jurisdiction before specifying it.
- What happens in a power cut?
- Both paddles unlock and the paddle is allowed to retract the latchbolt, so the door returns to free passage in both directions.
- How is this different from the 9092EL?
- How much it controls. The 9092EL controls only the outside paddle and the inside paddle is always free for immediate egress. The 9095EL controls both paddles and has cylinders on both sides, so it governs movement in both directions.
- What is the difference between EL and EU here?
- EL is energized to lock, so power loss unlocks both paddles. EU is energized to unlock, so power loss locks both paddles. The failure behavior is opposite, and on this function that decides whether the door is free or key only when power is lost.
- How many cylinders does it need?
- Two. It has cylinders inside and outside. Tell us your keyway and whether they should be keyed to an existing system and we will confirm them with the order.
- What voltage does it take?
- 12 VDC or 24 VDC. The power supply is separate, so confirm voltage and current against your access control design.
- Can it go on a fire door?
- The hardware is UL Listed for 3 hour fire doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft on single labeled metal or wood doors. Whether a controlled egress function is acceptable on a given fire or egress opening is a code question for your authority having jurisdiction.
