Motion Detectors

A motion detector covers volume rather than a single opening, which makes it the interior backstop of most systems: if someone gets past the perimeter, the room catches them. It is also the device most likely to generate false alarms when it is chosen or aimed carelessly, so matching the technology to the space is worth the few minutes it takes.

Passive infrared units watch for a heat signature crossing the detection pattern and suit ordinary interiors. Dual-technology models such as the DT8050A-SN add a microwave channel and require both to agree before alarming, which is what makes them usable in spaces with air movement, sunlight, or temperature swings that defeat a plain PIR. Higher-risk models like the IS3050A-SN add anti-mask detection that reports if the lens is blocked or sprayed, and mirror optics for tighter pattern control at longer ranges. Outdoor detectors such as the 5800PIR-OD2 are weather rated and ship with masking strips so the pattern can be trimmed off a sidewalk or driveway. This section lists wireless devices alongside hardwired V-Plex detectors that run on a multiplex loop, so check the connection type against your panel. Mount across the likely path of travel rather than facing it, and keep heat sources and vents out of the pattern.
