Video is the feature customers ask for by name, and the doorbell is where most of them start. A Wi-Fi doorbell camera replaces the existing lighted button, runs on the transformer already behind it, and sends a live view and two-way audio to a phone whenever someone presses it or motion is detected at the door. Tying it to the same app that arms the security system means one login instead of a second app from a different vendor.

Slim trim-style units, the SkyBell Trim 2 among them, suit narrow door casings and brick molding where a bulky doorbell will not sit flat, and they come in finishes that match typical door hardware. Before quoting one, check the existing chime transformer, since these draw more than a mechanical button and some installs need a transformer upgrade, and check the Wi-Fi signal at the doorframe rather than at the router.
