Conventional Detection Devices

Conventional fire alarm panels do not care which brand of detector sits on a zone, only that it is electrically compatible. That is why Fire-Lite's zoned panels are typically paired with standard two-wire and four-wire smoke and heat detectors, most commonly the System Sensor i3 series, along with manual pull stations, sprinkler waterflow switches, and valve tamper switches, all wired as initiating devices on a supervised zone with an end-of-line resistor.

Selecting devices for a zoned system comes down to a few checks. Two-wire detectors draw their power from the zone itself, so the panel's compatibility listing limits how many can share one circuit. Four-wire detectors take separate power, which suits detectors with sounders or relays and requires an end-of-line power supervision relay. Heat detectors belong where smoke detection would nuisance alarm. For large open spaces with high ceilings, such as warehouses, atriums, and gymnasiums, reflected-beam smoke detectors protect a long span from a single device; the beam detectors listed here are intelligent models that report on an addressable loop.
