The Schlage ND80 is the storeroom lock function (ANSI F86) of the ND Series, Schlage heavy duty Grade 1 cylindrical lock. The outside lever is always fixed, the latch is retracted by the inside lever, and the key in the outside lever retracts the latch only. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress.
There is no unlocked state to set. The door is permanently secured against entry and every entry takes a key, so it cannot be left standing open to anyone who wanders past. That is exactly what you want on supply rooms, utility and mechanical spaces, IT and server rooms, medication and equipment storage, and any back of house door that should never be casually accessible.
Note the distinction that trips people up: the key retracts the latch so a keyholder can get in, but it does not unlock the outside lever. The lever stays fixed before, during, and after. Nothing can leave the opening unsecured by accident.
The optional RX request to exit switch is available on this function, so the access control system can see authorized exits. It takes conventional, FSIC, or SFIC cylinder formats on the patented Everest 29 S123 keyway, with 3,100 in-lb of abusive lever torque resistance (2.6x BHMA) and near zero droop and wobble after 16 million cycles (16x BHMA).

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does ND80 mean?
- It is the Schlage function code for the storeroom lock, ANSI F86. The outside lever is always fixed and the key retracts the latch only.
- Does the key unlock the outside lever?
- No, and this is the detail people miss. The key retracts the latch so a keyholder can open the door, but the outside lever stays fixed the whole time. There is no way to leave it unlocked.
- Can I leave the door unlocked for a delivery?
- Not with this function - there is no unlocked state. If a room sometimes needs to stay open, look at the ND70 classroom lock or the ND53 entrance lock instead.
- Can people get out from inside?
- Yes. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress and needs no key, which matters when staff are leaving a supply room with their hands full.
- Can I get an exit signal to my access control system?
- Yes. The RX request to exit switch is available on the ND80 and is specified under special options. Only a short list of ND functions offer it.
- How is this different from the ND81 accessible storeroom lock?
- Whether the key can leave the outside lever usable. On the ND80 the outside lever is fixed at all times. On the ND81, a 180 degree clockwise rotation of the key allows the outside lever to retract the latch, which suits openings needing accessible operation. Ask us if that is a better fit.
- Which cylinder option do I pick?
- Match your existing key system. P6 is conventional on the patented Everest 29 S123 keyway, the Schlage default. P is conventional on the open Classic C keyway. Pick R for a 6-pin FSIC core, H for a refundable construction SFIC core, or L, J, or B to receive the lock less cylinder or less core.
- Can these be keyed to my existing keys?
- Yes. Choose keyed alike for a group that should open on one key, or master keyed to fold them into an existing system. Send us your keyway and bitting or a sample key. Construction keying is also available.
- Which latch do I need?
- The standard 13-247 deadlatch on a 2-3/4 inch backset covers most doors. Use a 3-3/4 inch latch for deeper stiles, and the 14-042 anti-friction fire deadlatch with its 3/4 inch throw on pairs of doors, which is also what the pair-door fire listings require.
- Does the lever choice matter for code?
- It can. For the California Fire Code, levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply, which covers Rhodes, Sparta, Tubular, Omega, Longitude, and Boardwalk. Confirm the lever design against your local requirements.
