The complete system includes an OPTEX TD-20U indoor/outdoor passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor transmitter and an RC-20U indoor chime receiver with an integrated relay output. When the motion detector senses movement within its configured detection area, it transmits a radio frequency signal to the receiver, which activates a selectable audible chime and corresponding zone indicator. The system provides a manufacturer-rated wireless transmission range of up to 2,000 feet (610 meters) under unobstructed line-of-sight conditions, allowing remote monitoring of driveways, pedestrian entrances, delivery areas, loading docks, and other access points. Its wireless architecture eliminates the need to run communication wiring between the outdoor sensor and indoor receiver, making it suitable for residential properties, retail stores, warehouses, commercial offices, and facilities requiring visitor or perimeter awareness.

The RCTD-20U incorporates a TD-20U passive infrared motion detector with two selectable coverage patterns: a 17-foot (5-meter) wide fan pattern or a 50-foot (15-meter) long-range beam pattern. The wide-angle configuration is suitable for monitoring entrances, pedestrian pathways, and areas where visitors approach from different directions, while the long-range configuration provides focused detection across driveways, gates, and extended access routes. The TD-20U operates using a standard 9V battery, sold separately, with an estimated service life of approximately two years under the manufacturer's specified usage conditions of 250 activations per day at 70 F (20 C). Its weather-resistant housing carries an IP54 ingress protection rating and supports indoor or outdoor operation from 15 F to 120 F (-10 C to 50 C). It supports three standard annunciation zones with distinct chime tones, accommodating up to three transmitters per zone, plus a fourth continuous-alarm zone supporting three additional transmitters. This provides a total capacity of 12 learned transmitter codes, including nine standard-zone devices and three continuous-zone devices. The receiver incorporates five adjustable volume levels with a maximum audible output of approximately 80 dB, allowing occupants to select a notification level appropriate for the installation environment. Green and red LED indicators provide power and zone activity information, while low-battery notification alerts users when a paired transmitter requires battery replacement.
