Some openings defeat ordinary door hardware. Gates flex, sag, and take impacts, sit outdoors year-round, and are often pushed or pulled against the lock by wind and gate operators, a condition called preload that can keep a standard lock from releasing. Specialty electromechanical locks are built for those conditions.

The GL1 is Securitron's heavy-duty electromechanical gate lock, delivering 2,000 pounds of holding force with weather-resistant construction for vehicle and pedestrian gates, swinging or sliding, and for both manually and electrically operated gates. It is designed to release reliably under preload, operates on 12 or 24 VDC, and comes in four functions: fail-locked and fail-safe standard models, the GL1-FL and GL1-FS, plus monitored fail-locked and fail-safe models, the GL1-FLM and GL1-FSM, which report lock status back to the access control system. Choose fail-locked where the gate must stay secure through a power loss and fail-safe where it must release, and confirm the requirement with the authority having jurisdiction for any gate that is part of a means of egress.
