Nedap AVI Long Range Vehicle Identification

Nedap AVI reads a vehicle before it reaches the gate, so a driver never has to open a window. This catalog covers both halves of that: the tags and cards that go on or in the vehicle, and the uPASS and TRANSIT readers that identify them, plus driver identification boosters, license plate readers, interface boards and the mounting hardware that holds it all in place. Browse the full Nedap AVI catalog below.

UHF Tags and Cards

The UHF side is passive: no battery in the tag and nothing to maintain. Windshield tags are listed as passive UHF transponders offering long range identification up to 5 meters or 16 ft, in plain and tamper resistant versions and with Wiegand 26 output, described as an effective solution for upgrading an existing proximity installation for parking. Headlight tags do the same job on a vehicle with a metallised or heated windshield, and heavy duty tags in a rugged housing reach 10 meters or 33 ft with uPASS Target, mounting to the exterior of the vehicle where tamperproof mounting is required.

Cards cover both vehicle and building access with one credential. UHF ISO cards read up to 5 meters with uPASS Reach and 2 meters with uPASS Access. Combi cards add proximity or smartcard technology to the UHF, so one single card works for both vehicle and building access, and they are listed for HID Prox, HID iClass, Mifare 1K, Mifare DESFire 4K, EM4102 and Legic, individually and in bundles of 25 and 100. Hangtags, exterior sticker tags and rearview mirror tags round out the UHF range.

TRANSIT Long Range Tags

The TRANSIT tags are a separate family, read by the TRANSIT readers rather than by uPASS. The Window Button is a long range single ID vehicle tag designed to complement the interior of a passenger vehicle, identified up to 10 meters by the TRANSIT Standard or TRANSIT Edge reader and up to 4 meters by the TRANSIT Entry, and it is factory programmed read only with a customer specific security code and a customer defined tag ID number. A push button activated version is listed alongside it.

The Compact Tag is a slim line credit card sized tag read at 7 meters or 23 feet, with a bi-faced antenna so it reads from either side and no wrong way to hold it. The Heavy Duty Tag ISO is the weatherproof option for harsh environments, mounted by screws, bolts or rivets directly on a vehicle chassis and rated shock and vibration proof, watertight, UV stable and chemical resistant.

uPASS UHF Readers

uPASS readers work with battery free passive UHF. The uPASS Reach offers vehicle identification up to 5 meters for parking access and complies with ISO 18000 6 c and the EPC global Gen2 directive. The uPASS Access has the dimensions of a conventional access control reader but identifies at up to 2 meters for hands-free door access. The uPASS Target reaches 33 ft and takes an add-on antenna, and the uPASS Go is a long range UHF RFID reader identifying passive EPC Gen 2 tags at up to 10 meters with Wiegand, RS485, Ethernet and USB-C interfaces, OSDP v2 with Secure Channel, and an IP66 outdoor rated enclosure.

TRANSIT Long Range Readers

TRANSIT readers identify Nedap tags at up to 10 meters at traveling speeds up to 200 km/h, which is what a truck gate or a highway lane needs, and the long read range lets the reader be installed out of the reach of vandals. The TRANSIT Standard is the controller with built-in antenna and a wide variety of interfaces. The TRANSIT Entry is the slim housing version reading at 4 meters, mounted on a wall next to a door or on an entry pedestal near a barrier.

The TRANSIT Edge is a complete stand alone system needing no more than web browser access to the reader and no software to install, for perimeter access with a minimum of cabling. An ATEX IECEx certified version of the PS270 is listed for potentially explosive atmospheres, and the TRANSIT Ultimate covers 33 ft installs. Main boards, covers, hinges, heaters and service sets are listed for the readers already in the field.

Driver Identification Boosters

A tag identifies the vehicle; a booster identifies who is driving it. Driver based ID systems ensure that a vehicle can never get access to a secured area unless occupied by an authorized driver, and the booster reads a personal access credential already in the driver's pocket, so no new cards have to be issued. Prox, smartcard, Legic and transition boosters are listed in 2G and Ultimate versions, along with a Dual!D card holder that brings the same driver and vehicle pairing to the uPASS Reach.

License Plate Recognition

License plate reading identifies the vehicle with no tag or card in the vehicle at all. The Nedap ANPR reader is an all in one camera including camera, analyzer and IR illuminator with embedded processing software onboard and RS485 and Ethernet communication. A Wiegand interface module converts the plate read into a Wiegand badge output so it drops into a standard access control panel without custom integration, and a LUMO license plate reader is listed at 33 ft.

Reader Accessories and Interface Boards

Interface hardware adapts a reader to the panel it has to talk to: TCP/IP communication boards for connecting serial Nedap devices to an Ethernet network, an MTR module that lets the TRANSIT Entry read standard proximity and smartcards at the face of the reader, an HID interface board that decodes HID prox cards read through a booster, RS422 and RS485 boards, OSDP and PCC485 boards, and a squelch upgrade board for trimming read range where full range is not wanted.

Mounting covers wall mounting sets, pole mounting kits for a pole or gooseneck with a flexible arm, adjustable mounting sets with a ball and socket joint for angling the reader, mount set extensions and flat brackets. Weather protection hoods are listed for the uPASS Reach, TRANSIT Entry, uPASS Target, uPASS Go and TRANSIT Ultimate, protecting the reader from direct water spray, rain and sun. Tag holders, suction cups and card holders cover the vehicle side.
