Power Supplies & Battery Chargers
A fire alarm panel's built-in power supply is sized for the panel and a modest device list. When a building needs more strobes than the panel can drive, or a battery calculation calls for more standby capacity than the panel cabinet can hold, the answer is a separate power supply or charger that the panel supervises.
Remote power supplies such as the FL-PS6 at 6 amps and the FL-PS10 at 10 amps provide 24 VDC for notification appliances and auxiliary loads, installed near the devices they serve so long wire runs do not eat the voltage the far strobes need. They mount in lockable metal enclosures with standby battery charging and trouble reporting back to the fire alarm panel. Large battery chargers solve a different problem: the CHG-120F charges sealed lead-acid batteries from 25 to 120 amp-hours for panels whose standby and alarm load calculations exceed what an onboard charger can maintain, which is common on larger systems and voice evacuation installations.
