The Detex V40xNS-ED combines the narrow stile Value Series rim exit device with the Electric Dogging package, for aluminum storefront and glass doors with 2 inch to 2-1/2 inch stiles. Energize it, and after the pushpad is depressed once, the pushpad and latch bolt stay retracted, turning the entrance into a push-pull door. Relock every device from a single switch or through a fire alarm input.
It is the practical way to run a storefront: doors free during business hours, secured on a schedule or on command, with no dogging key and no staff walking the perimeter. The door stays locked until the first pushpad activation before dogging can be engaged remotely, and remote deactivation gives instantaneous lockdown.
The narrow stile device uses an extended extrusion that makes it 2 inches longer than the wide stile V40 and ships with the 98 semi mortise strike that clears a narrow frame. Underneath it is the same Grade 1 panic hardware with a stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt, and the ED module runs on 24 VAC or 24 VDC in a tamper resistant housing.
Features
- Fits 2 inch to 2-1/2 inch narrow stile doors, including aluminum storefront and glass doors.
- Extended extrusion makes the device 2 inches longer than the wide stile V40, with a lower profile strike.
- 98 semi mortise strike standard, suited to narrow stile frames.
- Maintained latch and pushpad retraction - both stay retracted while energized for true push-pull operation.
- Relocking of all devices from a single switch or a fire alarm input.
- Door remains locked until the first pushpad activation, which then allows remote activation of dogging mode.
- Remote deactivation of dogging gives instantaneous lockdown.
- Pushpad stays depressed while the latch is retracted, preventing unnecessary cycling and running quieter.
- While dogged, the pushpad stays out of the path of egress, removing the usual catch point.
- Operates on 24 VAC or 24 VDC; continuous duty magnet; tamper resistant housing.
- ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 device with stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt.
- Ships with the FC3 3 ft flexible conduit kit at the end cap; FC10 or less flex conduit (LF) available.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When do I need the narrow stile version?
- When the door stile is 2 inches to 2-1/2 inches, which covers most aluminum storefront and glass doors. Wide stile and flush doors take the V40-ED.
- What does electric dogging actually do?
- It holds the latch bolt and pushpad retracted electrically, so the storefront works push-pull during business hours without anyone dogging doors by key. Throw the switch and every device relatches at once.
- Do I need a power supply?
- Yes. A 24V power supply or logic controller is required and is not included, and most applications also need a power switch or keyswitch. The 90-800 and 80-800 supplies both include a fire loop connection.
- Why does it come with the 98 strike?
- The 98 semi mortise strike is the low profile strike suited to a narrow stile frame. The 99 surface and 94 double door strikes are wide stile V40 options.
- Can I get it hurricane rated?
- No. The H hurricane rating is offered on the wide stile V40 only. Fire rating (F) is available on the narrow stile device.
- Can I lock the storefront down remotely?
- Yes. Remote deactivation of dogging gives instantaneous lockdown across all connected devices, and the fire alarm input relocks everything automatically.
- Does the pushpad stick out when dogged?
- No. The pad remains depressed while the latch is retracted, keeping it out of the path of egress and removing the catch point other dogged exit devices leave behind.
- What is the difference from the NSK narrow kit?
- The NSK converts a wide stile V40 for narrow stile glass door applications in the field. If you know the opening is narrow stile up front, order the V40xNS-ED built that way.
