The Detex V40 is the Value Series wide stile rim exit device: ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 panic hardware priced to be the best value in durable loss prevention hardware. A stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt, heavy duty ribbed aluminum rail, and high impact ABS and anodized surfaces let it withstand over 1400 pounds of static pull force, and the patented mounting plate and strike locator system replaces paper templates for the easiest, most accurate panic hardware install available.
The device is non-handed and field sizeable, covers a 161 door prep, and fits wood, hollow metal, fiberglass, and aluminum doors on single openings and pairs with mullions. The modular design accepts the full Value Series trim lineup - blank plates, pulls, key retracts latch trims, classroom, storeroom, and passage levers, and the EU2W electric lever - and outside trims change or rekey without removing the device from the door.

- What doors does the V40 fit?
- Wood, hollow metal, fiberglass, and aluminum doors from 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches thick, on single openings and pairs with mullions. It is a wide stile device - singles from 3-1/2 inch stile, pairs from 4 inch stile with the standard 99 surface strike.
- Is this the fire rated or hurricane rated version?
- No. This page builds the standard panic V40. The 3 hour fire rated (F) and hurricane rated (H) versions are separate models.
- What about narrow stile glass doors?
- 2 to 2-1/2 inch narrow stile doors take the separate V40xNS, which is 2 inches longer with a lower profile strike. This page covers the standard wide stile V40 only.
- Is the device handed?
- The device itself is non-handed and field sizeable. Lever trims (BN and D2W) are handed, and the EU2W electric trim is not field reversible - pick LHR or RHR to match your door.
- Which trims need a cylinder, and is one included?
- 03 function trims and cylinder dogging take a rim cylinder; 08 and 09 lever trims take a mortise cylinder. Cylinders ship only if you pick a pre-installed cylinder option (MC65, RC65, IC7, IK7, IC7R, IK7R) - IC and IK housings do not include the core. Otherwise the device ships less cylinder, provided by others.
- What is dogging?
- Dogging holds the pushpad down so the door works push/pull during business hours. The V40 ships with 1/8 turn hex key dogging; cylinder key dogging or no dogging can be ordered instead.
- How do I electrify the opening?
- The EU2W trim gives 24 VDC electric lock/unlock of the outside lever (fail secure standard), and FC3/FC10 conduit kits, the PT5 concealed power transfer, or the EH8 8 wire electric hinge carry power across the hinge edge.
- What is the warranty?
- Detex covers the V40 with a 10 year mechanical and 3 year electrical limited warranty.
