The Detex V40xNS is the narrow stile version of the Value Series rim exit device, built for aluminum storefront and glass doors with 2 inch to 2-1/2 inch stiles where the standard wide stile V40 will not fit. It is the same ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 Type 1 panic hardware, reworked with an extended extrusion that makes the device 2 inches longer and a lower profile strike that clears a narrow stile frame.
Everything that makes the V40 worth buying carries over: a stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt, a heavy duty ribbed aluminum rail with high impact ABS and anodized surfaces, over 1400 pounds of static pull resistance, 1/8 turn hex key dogging, an angled end cap that deflects damage away from the device, and the patented mounting plate and strike locator system that replaces paper templates.
Two differences matter when you order. The V40xNS ships with the 98 semi mortise strike as standard rather than the 99 surface strike, and the hurricane rating is not offered on the narrow stile device. Fire rating, both device finishes, both door widths, and the full Value Series trim range are all available.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When do I need the V40xNS instead of the V40?
- When the door stile is 2 inches to 2-1/2 inches - typically aluminum storefront and glass doors. The standard V40 needs a wide stile or flush door, from 3-1/2 inch stile on singles and 4 inch on pairs.
- How is it physically different?
- It uses an extended extrusion that adds 2 inches to device length, so it measures 34-7/8 inches on a 36 inch door and 46-7/8 inches on a 48 inch door, and it uses a lower profile strike that clears the narrow frame.
- Why does it come with the 98 strike?
- The 98 semi mortise strike is the low profile strike suited to a narrow stile frame, so it is standard here. The 99 surface strike and 94 double door strike are wide stile V40 options and are not offered on the narrow stile device.
- Can I get it hurricane rated?
- No. The H hurricane rating and the combined FH rating are offered on the wide stile V40 only. If the opening needs a windstorm listed exit device, it needs the wide stile V40.
- Can I get it fire rated?
- Yes, the F fire rated option is available. Note that fire rated devices ship less dogging and fire rated trims must be fail safe.
- Is the device handed?
- The device itself is non-handed. Lever trims (BN and D2W) are handed and the EU2W electric trim is not field reversible, so pick LHR or RHR to match your door.
- Which trims need a cylinder, and is one included?
- 03 function trims and cylinder dogging take a rim cylinder; 08 and 09 lever trims take a mortise cylinder. Cylinders are not included as standard, but Detex can pre-install a C65 cylinder or an IC7 interchangeable core housing before shipping.
- What is the NSK narrow kit?
- The NSK is a field kit that adapts a device for 2 inch narrow stile glass door applications after the fact. If you know the opening is narrow stile up front, order the V40xNS rather than converting in the field.
- What is the warranty?
- Detex covers it with a 10 year mechanical and 3 year electrical limited warranty.
