The Detex V40-ED is the Value Series wide stile rim exit device with the Electric Dogging package. Energize it, and after the pushpad is depressed once, the pushpad and latch bolt stay retracted, turning the opening into a push-pull door. Relock the whole group of doors from a single switch or through a fire alarm input.
It is the economical answer when all you need is remote dogging rather than full electric latch retraction. One touch converts any secured door, or a bank of them, into push-pull openings and releases them on demand, and remote deactivation gives you instantaneous lockdown. The door stays locked until the first pushpad activation, so dogging mode can only be entered after a legitimate exit.
Because the pushpad remains depressed while the latch is retracted, the device does not cycle needlessly and runs quieter, and the pad sits out of the path of egress rather than forming the usual catch point. Underneath it is the standard Grade 1 V40: stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt, heavy duty ribbed aluminum rail, patented mounting plate and strike locator, angled end cap. The ED module runs on 24 VAC or 24 VDC in a tamper resistant housing with a continuous duty magnet.

- What does electric dogging actually do?

- Do I need a power supply?
- Yes. A 24V power supply or logic controller is required and is not included, and most applications also need a power switch or keyswitch to activate and deactivate dogging. The 90-800 and 80-800 supplies both include a fire loop connection.
- How is this different from electric latch retraction?
- Electric latch retraction pulls the latch on every request. ED simply holds the device dogged. If dogging is all you need, ED is the economical alternative.
- Why does the door stay locked at first?
- By design. The door remains locked until the first pushpad activation, and only then can dogging mode be activated remotely. It prevents the opening from being dogged without a legitimate exit first.
- Can it be used on a fire rated door?
