The Detex V40-EB pairs the Value Series wide stile rim exit device with the Exit Alarm with Battery package: a self-contained, 9 volt battery powered alarm built into the device itself. Push the pad on an armed door and a 100 decibel alarm sounds, alerting staff to the unauthorized exit. It needs no power run to the door, which makes it the standard answer for primary and secondary exits that have to stay legal for egress but cannot be used as a casual door.
Underneath, it is the same Grade 1 panic hardware as the standard V40 - stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt, heavy duty ribbed aluminum rail, patented mounting plate and strike locator, angled end cap. What changes is how it is controlled: a single mortise cylinder, sold separately, both arms the alarm and dogs the device with a 1/8 turn. Visual and audible arming indicators confirm the state, an armed/disarmed status indicator is field selectable, and rearming is field selectable between key rearm and 2 minute auto rearm.
Because the arming cylinder is also the dogging cylinder, the EB ships cylinder dogging (CD) as standard and is not offered with hex key dogging. Options build from there: 36 or 48 inch door width, 628 or 711 base rail, 99 or 98 strike, KS key stop, SN1 sex nuts, FC3 and FC10 flex conduit, LBM latch bolt monitoring, and the R remote signal package.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the EB option add to a V40?
- A self contained battery powered exit alarm built into the device. When the device is armed, using the pushpad sounds a 100 decibel alarm. The door still opens freely, so egress is never blocked.
- Does it need to be wired?
- No. The EB runs on a standard 9 volt battery, which is what makes it practical to retrofit on doors with no power nearby. If you would rather power it permanently, the BE-961-1 battery eliminator supplies 9 VDC in place of the battery.
- Is a cylinder included?
- No. The EB requires a single mortise cylinder, sold separately, and that one cylinder both arms the alarm and dogs the device. It accepts any mortise cylinder with a standard Yale cam; 7 pin interchangeable core cylinders need a collar.
- Why can I not order hex dogging?
- On the EB the arming cylinder is also the dogging cylinder, so the device ships with 1/8 turn cylinder dogging (CD) as standard. Your only alternative is less dogging (LD). Hex key dogging belongs to the non alarmed V40.
- Can I put this on an aluminum storefront door?
- Only as a narrow stile build. The EB is listed for wood, hollow metal, and fiberglass doors, and Detex specifies that aluminum doors be ordered as narrow stile (NS), which suits 2 inch stiles and adds 2 inches to device length.
- What does the KS key stop do?
- With KS the key can only be removed from the cylinder when the device is armed, so the opening cannot be left disarmed by accident.
- Can the alarm signal a panel or a remote station?
- Yes. The R option adds Form C remote signaling when the alarm sounds plus a remote bypass input, and LBM latch bolt monitoring triggers the alarm on a dead latch. Both need wiring to the frame, which is what the FC3 and FC10 flex conduit kits are for.
- How does it rearm after an alarm?
- Field selectable: either key rearm, requiring staff to reset it deliberately, or 2 minute auto rearm.
- Is this the fire rated or hurricane version?
- No. This page builds the standard EB. Fire rated (F) and hurricane rated (H) EB devices are separate models.
- Is signage included?
- The BLK black pushpad option ships with peel and stick door signage reading Emergency Exit Only Alarm Will Sound. Standalone Detex door signage is also available separately.
