The Detex H-V40 is the hurricane rated build of the Value Series wide stile rim exit device. The H prefix makes it a Florida Building Code hurricane component with an FBC windstorm listing, so it can be specified on openings in windborne debris regions where the exit device itself has to carry a windstorm approval along with the door and frame.

Mechanically it is the standard V40 and behaves like it. ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 Type 1 panic hardware, UL Listed Panic Hardware, a stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt, heavy duty ribbed aluminum rail, high impact ABS and anodized surfaces, over 1400 pounds of static pull resistance, and the patented mounting plate and strike locator system in place of paper templates. Unlike the fire rated F-V40, the hurricane build keeps 1/8 turn hex key dogging as standard, with cylinder dogging and less dogging available.

Two ordering rules come with the rating. Hurricane rated hardware includes sex nuts for the latch bolt, and the H option is offered on the wide stile V40 only - not on the narrow stile V40xNS and not on the V50 or V51 vertical rod devices. Build yours by picking trim and function, handing, device finish, and 36 or 48 inch door width, then the strike, cylinder, pushpad color, trim finish, power transfer, fastener, and dogging selections.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the H prefix actually mean?
It makes the device a Florida Building Code hurricane component with an FBC windstorm listing. It is the version specified when the exit device on a windborne debris opening has to be windstorm approved along with the rest of the assembly.
Is it different mechanically from a standard V40?
No. It is the same Grade 1 rim device with the same latch, rail, and trim range. The rating is what changes, plus the sex nuts included at the latch bolt.
Can I still dog it?
Yes. Unlike the fire rated F-V40, which is less dogging only, the hurricane build keeps 1/8 turn hex key dogging as standard, and cylinder dogging or less dogging can be ordered instead.
Can I get the hurricane rating on a narrow stile door?
No. The H option is offered on the wide stile V40 only. It is not available on the narrow stile V40xNS, nor on the V50 or V51 surface vertical rod devices.
What if the opening needs to be fire rated too?
Order the combined FH version, which is fire rated and hurricane rated in one device. Note that adding the fire rating brings the fire rules with it, including less dogging only.
Which trims need a cylinder, and is one included?
03 function trims and cylinder dogging take a rim cylinder; 08 and 09 lever trims take a mortise cylinder. Cylinders are not included as standard, but Detex can pre-install a C65 cylinder or an IC7 interchangeable core housing before shipping.
Is the device handed?
The device itself is non-handed. Lever trims (BN and D2W) are handed and the EU2W electric trim is not field reversible, so pick LHR or RHR to match your door.
Where do I find the specific windstorm approval numbers?
Detex publishes detailed windstorm and fire listings at detex.com/PROVEN. Send us the opening details if you need the approval documentation for a submittal.
