The Detex F-V40 is the fire rated build of the Value Series wide stile rim exit device: UL Listed Fire Exit Hardware for 3 hours and ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 panic hardware in one device. It carries the same mechanics as the standard V40 - a stainless steel 3/4 inch deadlocking Pullman latch bolt, heavy duty ribbed aluminum rail, high impact ABS and anodized surfaces, and over 1400 pounds of static pull resistance - plus the patented mounting plate and strike locator system that replaces paper templates.
Fire rated hardware follows two rules that the standard V40 does not. The F-V40 ships Less Dogging (LD) only, because fire exit hardware must latch on every closing and cannot be held open by the pushpad. And fire rated trims must be fail safe - the EU2W electric lever is specified FSA on this device rather than the fail secure default. The UL fire listing covers single doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft and pairs up to 4 ft by 8 ft when the pair is protected by an F90KR keyed removable mullion.
Build yours on this page: pick the trim and function, handing, device finish (626 brushed aluminum or 711 black), and 36 or 48 inch door width, then tailor the strike, pre-installed cylinder, pushpad color, outside trim finish, power transfer, and fastener selections.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How is the F-V40 different from the standard V40?
- The F prefix adds the 3 hour UL fire exit hardware listing. Mechanically it is the same Grade 1 rim device, with two fire rules attached: it ships Less Dogging only, and any electric trim must be fail safe.
- Why can I not dog a fire rated exit device?
- Fire exit hardware has to latch every time the door closes so the opening holds against fire and smoke. Dogging holds the pushpad down and defeats that, so hex key and cylinder dogging are not offered on fire rated devices - the F-V40 is LD, less dogging.
- What size openings does the fire listing cover?
- Single doors up to 4 ft by 10 ft, and pairs up to 4 ft by 8 ft when the pair uses an F90KR keyed removable mullion.
- Can I use this on a pair of fire doors?
- Yes, with a fire rated mullion. The UL listing for pairs is written around the F90KR keyed removable mullion, with a rim device on each leaf latching to the mullion.
- What does fail safe mean for the electric trim?
- On a fire rated device the EU2W electric lever is specified FSA (fail safe), so the outside lever unlocks on power loss. The standard V40 defaults to fail secure instead - be sure your submittal calls out FSA on the fire build.
- Which trims need a cylinder, and is one included?
- 03 function trims take a rim cylinder; 08 and 09 lever trims take a mortise cylinder. Cylinders ship only if you pick a pre-installed cylinder option (MC65, RC65, IC7, IK7, IC7R, IK7R) - IC and IK housings do not include the core. Otherwise the device ships less cylinder, provided by others.
- Is the device handed?
- The device itself is non-handed. Lever trims (BN and D2W) are handed and the EU2W electric trim is not field reversible, so pick LHR or RHR to match your door.
- Is this the hurricane rated version?
- No. This page builds the fire rated F-V40. Hurricane rated (H) and combined hurricane plus fire rated (FH) are separate models.
- What is the warranty?
- Detex covers the F-V40 with a 10 year mechanical and 3 year electrical limited warranty.
