The Macurco GD-2A Combustible Gas Detector provides continuous monitoring for methane (natural gas) and liquefied petroleum (LP) propane in residential buildings, multifamily properties, and light commercial offices. Designed for integration with compatible fire alarm and burglar alarm control panels, this low-voltage detector identifies combustible gas concentrations and activates an alarm relay when the monitored gas reaches its specified threshold. Each detector provides a recommended coverage area of 900 square feet, with placement and spacing determined by the gas being monitored and installation conditions.

The GD-2A operates on 12-24V AC or DC and incorporates a temperature-compensated, supervised solid-state gas sensor with a manufacturer-rated five-year sensor life. Its alarm setpoint is 25% of the lower explosive limit (LEL), based on UL 1484 sensitivity requirements. The detector is UL 2075 listed and provides an SPDT alarm relay with normally open or normally closed connections, plus a separate normally closed trouble/supervisory relay. Configurable latching or self-restoring alarm operation supports integration with compatible monitoring systems. The white enclosure measures approximately 4.5 x 5 x 1.625 inches and operates within a temperature range of 32 F to 120 F.

The surface-mount or near-flush-mount enclosure accommodates installation over a four-inch square or double-gang electrical box. For methane detection, Macurco specifies wall installation approximately 12 inches below the ceiling; for propane detection, approximately 12 inches above the floor. Recommended detector spacing is approximately 30 feet on center, providing nominal coverage of 900 square feet per detector. These mounting requirements reflect the different behavior of lighter-than-air methane and heavier-than-air propane. Installers should follow the manufacturer's location restrictions and applicable codes when determining final placement.

The GD-2A is intended for indoor combustible gas detection in occupied residential and office environments, including areas where natural gas or propane appliances and gas piping are present. The electronic sensing system does not require routine sensor recalibration, while visual indicators and supervised relay connections support operational monitoring and troubleshooting. The GD-2A does not detect carbon monoxide, smoke, or fire and does not include an internal audible alarm; audible notification requires an appropriately connected external system. This distinction makes it suitable as a dedicated combustible gas detection component within a compatible, properly designed alarm system.
