When both audible and visual alarms are required, Edwards 517TCSB Series Photoelectric Single Station Smoke Alarms are designed to provide dependable early warning of the presence of smoke. The series has a 177 Candela strobe with the word "FIRE" on it and a 90 dB solid state piezo signal.

The 3 pulse temporal pattern evacuation tone is a common component of the 517TCSB Series. The smoke alarm uses a photodiode sensor and a pulsating LED light source in a fully screened sensing chamber to operate on the principle of light scattering, a superior way of detection.

The high intensity strobe and a 90 dBA local audible signal are both activated when the alarm is set off. The strobe will flash 60 times per minute at a brightness of 177 candela during the alarm period.
