Outdoor detection catches an intruder at the perimeter rather than inside the building, which buys response time. The difficulty is that rain, direct sunlight, animals and changing light levels all produce the signals an indoor detector would read as movement.

The mirror detectors listed here are built for those conditions, using mirror optics and Visonic's Octa-Quad technology to hold accurate intruder detection with minimum false alarms. Anti-masking versions also report any attempt to block the detector, which is worth having on equipment mounted where anyone can reach it.
