Break Glass Emergency Door Releases

The SDC 491 is a break glass emergency door release station that provides immediate unlocking of perimeter or interior doors equipped with fail-safe electric locks. Its surface mount box and replacement glass are listed alongside it.

The 491 has a built in alarm that may be used as a local door annunciator, and it may initiate the release of an individual door or all doors on the same circuit. It has two SPDT 10 amp contacts: one for lock release and one auxiliary contact for remote monitoring, CCTV activation, or alarm activation. The blue housing has easy to read activation instructions that avoid confusion with red fire alarm stations, and because the glass must be broken, greater commitment is required than with a pull station. The station measures 5.5 H x 3.5 W x 1.375 D inches and includes two replacement glass plates and an aluminum rod for striking the glass, which is not required to break it.

The 491 mounts in a 2 inch deep single gang back box or a double gang box with plaster ring cover. For surface mounting, the 491-BB is a blue surface mount box measuring 5.3 inches high, 3.3 inches wide, and 1.5 inches deep. The 491GL4 is a package of 4 replacement glass plates for the 491.
