Delayed Egress Systems

Delayed egress solves a problem ordinary exit hardware cannot: some doors must remain usable as exits while still preventing someone from walking out unnoticed. Memory care wings, hospital units, dormitories, child care facilities, and retail stockrooms all need a door that sounds an alarm and holds for a short, code-approved delay before releasing, giving staff time to respond while never trapping anyone during an emergency.

The IMXDA integrates the motion detection that starts that sequence. When someone approaches and attempts to exit, it initiates a local alarm and a brief delay before the lock releases, and it is used with electromagnetic locks in healthcare, airports, dormitories, and retail or warehouse environments. Because delayed egress is governed by local building code, the system is sold in versions built for specific requirements: IMXDA-CA15S and IMXDA-CA30S meet California code with 15 and 30 second delays, IMXDA-CH meets Chicago code, and IMXDA-H is designed for use with the HUGS infant protection system. As with any delayed egress installation, the lock must still release immediately on fire alarm activation or loss of power, and the door must carry the required signage.
