Schlage 30-007 Full-Size Interchangeable Core (FSIC) Mortise Cylinder Housing is a heavy-duty commercial cylinder housing designed for Schlage L-Series mortise locks with escutcheon trim (L and N styles). It enables immediate on-site rekeying by allowing a full-size interchangeable core to be inserted or removed in seconds using a special control key. This cylinder housing is sold less core (the interchangeable core is purchased separately) and comes ready with a Schlage L cam, compression ring, and spring for easy installation. By simply using a control key, maintenance staff can remove the core without disassembling the lock or removing it from the door, enabling fast lock rekeys if keys are lost or security compromised.

Engineered for high-traffic, Grade 1 security applications, the 30-007 housing features a robust two-piece stainless steel construction secured by Torx screws. The core housing components are solid brass for reliable operation and longevity. This non-handed design works on left- or right-hand doors and is built to withstand heavy use in demanding environments like schools, hospitals, airports, government buildings, and corporate offices. Each housing includes the standard Schlage L583-255 cam pre-installed, which interfaces with the mortise lock mechanism for all L-Series functions (except specific cases like the outside of a double-cylinder classroom function). The included compression ring and spring ensure a secure fit against the door trim, preventing cylinder wobble and maintaining alignment. This sturdy build meets ANSI/BHMA A156.5 Grade 1 operational standards, meaning it’s certified for top-tier durability and performance expected in commercial settings.

Applications & Key System Integration

The Schlage 30-007 FSIC housing is purpose-built for Schlage L-Series mortise locks that use the larger escutcheon (plate) trims L or N. (For sectional rose trim applications, a variant with a blocking ring, such as Schlage 30-137, is used instead.) Facility managers choose this FSIC system to streamline key control – cores can be swapped out quickly to rekey a door without calling a locksmith or taking the lock apart. The housing accepts any compatible 6-pin Schlage full-size core, including classic, Everest, and Primus high-security cores, allowing you to tailor security levels per opening. For example, a standard core provides reliable everyday security, while a Primus XP core can be installed for UL437-rated high security (pick resistance and key control) in sensitive areas – all using the same 30-007 housing. This flexibility lets institutions deploy interchangeable cores across large facilities, mixing open keyways with restricted/keyway cores as needed. The 30-007’s design even allows it to fit some other manufacturers’ Grade 1 mortise locks that are compatible with Schlage cams and threading, so you can pair a Schlage cylinder into competitor locks if required, unifying your key system.

Comparison & Compatibility

Compared to a fixed core (non-IC) cylinder, the 30-007 FSIC housing offers significant operational advantages: it enables rapid rekeying and simplifies master key system expansions, at the slight cost of using a larger format core. Schlage’s full-size (large format) IC differs from small format IC (SFIC) systems (like Best) in that it’s proprietary to Schlage’s design – the core is larger and provides a bigger keyway and pin tumbler arrangement, but cannot interchange with SFIC hardware. However, the security and durability are equivalent or superior; Schlage’s full-size IC cores can withstand extensive use and are backed by Grade 1 cycle testing. The 30-007 housing works with all L-Series mortise lock functions except a few specialized cases: notably, it is not used for the exterior cylinder of the L9060 (double cylinder) mortise function, or for certain hotel privacy functions (L9485, L9486), which require different housing configurations. For those cases, Schlage offers alternative housings (e.g., Schlage 30-032 for L9060 outside) with a different cam. In all other standard door functions (entrance, classroom, office, storeroom, etc.), the 30-007 is the go-to solution for interchangeable core convenience. It seamlessly integrates into new or existing Schlage L9000-series locks, allowing facilities to upgrade to interchangeable core capability without changing the entire lock.
