Digital Video Recorders

Wisenet Digital Video Recorders

A DVR records cameras over coax, which is why it is the answer on a site that already has cabling in the walls and does not want a network drop at every camera position.

Recorders are listed by channel count at 4, 8 and 16 channels, then by raw storage and recording performance: 1080p at 120, 240 and 480fps depending on model, throughput at 32Mbps or 64Mbps, one to four internal HDDs and e-SATA on the larger units. Coaxial control sends PTZ commands back down the video cable, and HDMI and VGA outputs drive a local monitor.

Format matters as much as channel count. Wisenet HD+ models record AHD, TVI, CVI and CVBS, while pentabrid models add IP cameras to the same box for a site upgrading in stages.
