Which recorder a site needs comes down to what the cameras are. Coaxial cameras go on a DVR, network cameras go on an NVR, and a site that is halfway between needs a hybrid.

Multi-format recorders cover both: HQA DVRs at 1080p in 4, 8 and 16 channels, and hybrid HQA, CVBS and IP DVRs at 4MP in 8 and 16 channels, each with 2 SATA bays and storage from 1TB to 12TB.

Network video recorders are embedded units with PoE built in, so the switch and the recorder are one box. They run 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 channels, with frame rates from 120fps up to 1920fps, 4 to 16 PoE ports, up to 8 SATA bays and 4K 12MP support on the larger models.
