Overview

The HES KP20 Series Keypad Cabinet Lock is a battery-powered electronic cam lock designed to secure cabinets and drawers with keyless PIN code access. Built by HES (an ASSA ABLOY brand known for its electric strikes), the KP20 offers a flexible, stand-alone access control solution for furniture enclosures. It provides a convenient way to protect sensitive file storage, retail display cases, personal lockers, and medical or IT cabinets without the need for keys or complex wiring. This lock is ideal for low to medium security applications and delivers a holding force of 75 lbs to resist prying and tampering.

Feature Set

The KP20 series has a 12-button keypad and is completely integrated. Because it is battery operated, both batteries and application are secure. There are two access modes from which to choose. The Public Mode allows users to create one time PINs for temporary access, which is good for traditional shared lockers or cabinets in gyms and spas. The Private Mode utilises a retained code to grant access multiple times, making it good for assigned cabinets such a supply closet, or employee locker. The KP20 series has multiple color LED indicators as well as audible beeps to assist users for access and programming. These indicators provide quick feedback on valid and invalid entries. In the event of loss of power, the lock will remain secure in a fail-locked state, however, temporarily powering the lock through a micro USB port on the side will regain access.

Technical Specifications

Technically, the KP20’s aluminum die-cast construction and quality components ensure durability through daily use. It is rated for 30,000 cycles on a single set of three AAA batteries, which are easily replaceable by removing a single screw. The lock fits wood or metal cabinet doors and drawers ranging from 1/16" to 7/8" thick, and its non-handed, surface-mount design makes installation straightforward. A standard flat cam and an offset cam come included to accommodate different latching configurations, and the device supports third-party cam styles (such as hook cams) for specialized applications. With its compact form factor (about 6" x 1" in size) and simple retrofit installation, the KP20 brings electronic access control to enclosures that were previously secured by mechanical cam locks.

In contrast, the battery-operated KP20 Series delivers adequate strength for most cabinet scenarios without any wiring or network integration. It lacks an audit trail or remote unlock capabilities, but that trade-off means fewer failure points and a quick, cost-effective deployment.
