The Command Access MLRK1-AR is a 24VDC motorized electric latch retraction retrofit kit designed for compatible Adams Rite 8200, 8400, 8600, 8800, and P8800 Series exit devices. Featuring 1.3A average latch retraction current, 215mA holding current, Push-to-Set (PTS) adjustment, and electronic dogging, it converts existing mechanical exit hardware to electronically controlled latch retraction. The UL-listed kit supports rim and concealed vertical rod exit devices, integrates with compatible access control systems and automatic door operators, and offers optional request-to-exit monitoring. Its field-installable design preserves normal mechanical egress.
Command Access MLRK1-AR Motorized Latch Retraction Kit for Adams Rite Exit Devices
The Command Access MLRK1-AR Motorized Latch Retraction Kit is a field-installable electrification solution designed to convert compatible Adams Rite mechanical exit devices into electronically controlled latch retraction hardware. Manufactured by Command Access Technologies, the MLRK1-AR supports Adams Rite 8200, 8400, 8600, 8800, and P8800 Series exit devices, along with compatible GAAB G352 models. The kit accommodates both rim and concealed vertical rod exit device configurations, providing a retrofit alternative to replacing an entire panic exit assembly. Its motor-driven mechanism electrically retracts the exit device latch when activated by a compatible access control system, while preserving normal mechanical pushpad operation for interior egress. Applications include commercial storefronts, educational facilities, healthcare buildings, offices, and other access-controlled entrances requiring electrically operated panic hardware.
The MLRK1-AR operates from a regulated 24VDC power supply with a 10% voltage tolerance. The manufacturer's current installation instructions specify an average latch retraction current of 1.3A and average holding current of 215mA, supporting efficient sustained activation compared with traditional high-current solenoid latch retraction systems. Its integrated motor controller provides electronic dogging, allowing the pushpad and latch to remain retracted during extended authorized-access periods. The retrofit mechanism also incorporates Push-to-Set (PTS) adjustment technology, which allows installers to calibrate the retracted pushpad position after installation. PTS adjustment helps accommodate mechanical variations, linkage travel, and normal door operating conditions without requiring repeated mechanical repositioning of the motor assembly.
Designed for commercial electronic access control and automatic door operator integration, the Command Access MLRK1-AR can be activated through compatible card readers, keypads, access control relays, remote switches, and automatic door sequencing equipment. When the connected control system issues an authorized release command, the motor retracts the exit device latch and depresses the pushpad, allowing the door to open without manually operating the exterior trim. For scheduled access periods, sustained activation maintains the retracted condition until the control signal is removed. The kit supports optional integrated request-to-exit (REX) monitoring with a single-pole, double-throw contact rated at 0.5A at 24VDC, providing an auxiliary signal to compatible security equipment when that option is specified. The standard MLRK1-AR should not be assumed to include the optional REX switch.
The Command Access MLRK1-AR is designed for installation inside the existing Adams Rite exit device housing. The current manufacturer kit includes a motor assembly, hold-down bracket, mounting screws, cable tie and mounting pad, power harness, and PTS adjustment tool. The manufacturer's installation documentation specifies a minimum 18 AWG power connection and recommends a direct power connection between the regulated Class 2 power supply and motor controller, without routing motor power through intermediate access control relay contacts. The controller incorporates audible diagnostic signals that identify overvoltage, undervoltage, sensor faults, and unsuccessful latch retraction or dogging attempts. Command Access identifies compatibility primarily with exit devices manufactured after 2003; earlier Adams Rite hardware may require significant mechanical modification because of changes to the exit device housing.
The MLRK1-AR provides a retrofit motorized latch retraction solution without requiring a proprietary high-inrush power supply, provided the selected regulated power source meets Command Access electrical requirements. The manufacturer identifies the kit as UL Listed and backed by a three-year limited warranty. Its motorized mechanism is intended to preserve the existing exit device's mechanical egress function independently of electrical power, while the access control system determines when powered latch retraction occurs. Fire-rated exit hardware applications must maintain positive latching and follow the approved configuration and applicable life-safety requirements; sustained electronic dogging should not be assumed permissible on every fire-rated opening. Combining Adams Rite exit device compatibility, 24VDC motor operation, PTS calibration, and electronic dogging, the MLRK1-AR provides an upgrade path for commercial door installations requiring controlled electric latch retraction.
