Vandal resistant readers suit exposed doors, entrances onto the street and any opening where a reader gets treated roughly. The Paxton10 VR reader is rated IK10 for impact protection, runs on 12 V AC and measures 4.2 by 2.3 by 0.8 inches, and a proximity vandal proof reader is listed with a 1.57 inch read range for door and wall mounting.

An IK rating covers impact only, so check the ingress rating separately if the reader is fully exposed to weather.
