Should I install a window sensor or a motion detector in my home security system?

We recommend individual window sensors for traditional locking double-hung windows.

Making the best choice between a motion detector and a window sensor depends on the style of the window you want to protect. Each method of window protection has pros and cons. We suggest the Honeywell 5816 wireless window sensor or the more recent, slightly slimmer Honeywell 5811- both are simple surface mount sensors. These are also a smart choice if the windows don't open, or if they lock, but must be broken in order to enter the secured area.
