The HID 1346 ProxKey III puts 125 kHz proximity credentials into a key fob roughly the size of an automotive key, so users carry their access credential on the same ring as their keys instead of hunting for a badge. It offers universal compatibility with all HID proximity readers and is RF-programmable to your specified ID numbers.
The improved third generation design is built from an ultrasonically welded ABS shell with a TPE insert, finished black with a grey insert, and weighs just 0.14 oz. It is passive with no battery, so it allows an infinite number of reads with nothing to maintain or replace, and read range stays consistent even when the fob is jostling against keys and coins in a pocket.
Each fob carries an external number printed on the body for identification and control, and HID supplies a cross-reference list matching that external number to the programmed ID number so a batch can be enrolled quickly. Format capacity runs up to 85 bits with over 137 billion unique codes, and Corporate 1000 is available for organizations that need a dedicated, controlled format. HID backs it with a lifetime warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the key ring come with it?
- No. The fob has a key ring hole, but the ring itself is sold separately as HID part number 57-0001-02. Add rings to your order if your users need them.
- Will these work with my readers?
- The ProxKey III offers universal compatibility with all HID proximity readers. If your system reads 125 kHz HID Prox today, these will read on it, provided they are programmed with the matching format and facility code.
- What do I need to tell you when ordering?
- Your card format, facility code, and starting number. Fobs are encoded to customer specified ID numbers, and one programmed to the wrong facility code will not open anything on your system. If you are adding to an existing population, send a sample credential number or your original order details.
- Does the fob read as far as a card?
- No, and that is normal for a fob. Expect roughly 1.5 to 2 inches at a ProxPoint Plus, MiniProx, ThinLine II, or Prox80, 3 to 4 inches at a ProxPro or ProxPro II, and up to 12 inches at a MaxiProx. The smaller antenna in a fob gives shorter range than a full size proximity card.
- Can I print a photo or logo on it?
- No. The fob is not printable. It carries standard HID artwork, and identification is handled by the external number, which can be applied by inkjet or laser engraving. If you need a photo ID credential, use a proximity card instead.
- Does it need a battery?
- No. The design is passive, drawing power from the reader field, which allows an infinite number of reads with no maintenance.
- How durable is it on a keychain?
- The body is an ultrasonically welded ABS shell with a TPE insert, rated from -50 to 160 F (-45 to 70 C), and the third generation design was specifically revised for additional durability. Read range is unaffected by carrying it against keys and coins.
- What is Corporate 1000?
- A dedicated HID format program for organizations that want a controlled, unique card format rather than an open one, so no other end user receives credentials with the same numbering. It is listed as an available option on this fob.
- Can it hold a smart chip or a magnetic stripe?
- No. The ProxKey III is a 125 kHz proximity credential only - no contact smart chip module, no Wiegand stripe, and no magnetic stripe.
