A passive infrared request-to-exit sensor releases a locked door when someone approaches it, so nobody has to find a button on the way out. That makes it the usual choice on maglocked doors in corridors and lobbies where free egress has to be immediate.

Coverage and mounting height decide whether the sensor sees people early enough, so position it over the approach rather than over the door leaf.
