What happens when my detector senses carbon monoxide in the air?
That depends on whether you have a stand-alone CO detector, like the CM-6, or a detector that is monitored by a security system alarm panel.
Stand-alone detectors will sound an alarm that's built directly into the device when dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are detected. The downside of stand-alone detectors is they don't send alarm signals to a central monitoring station. Hardwired or wireless CO detectors connected to an alarm control panel, like the Vista 21iP, will sound an alarm AND send an alarm signal to your central monitoring station. A central station operator will then dispatch emergency fire personnel to your location to locate the source of the CO leak.
