The Bosch ARD-R40 is a non-contact, access control reader.

The reader is outfitted with an an LED column display and a beeper for both visual and audible status indication. A plastic-coating over the unit makes it suitable for mounting indoors or outdoors, and it fits in EU-standard recessed sockets. The larger design makes it more efficient at reading iCLASS cards.

The R40 iCLASS Switchplate Reader provides contactless smart card and proximity technology. Using a 13.56 MHz platform, smart card technology provides enhanced security and speed. Utilize contactless credentials (cards, tokens, or tags) with increased memory and capacity for applications such as biotechnology. This technology allows for a greater read range.

Bosch's ARD-R40 iCLASS/MIFARE Reader is a 13.56MHz non-contact access control reader with Wiegand interfaces for connecting to an access controller. The reader is compatible with EU-standard recessed sockets and is suitable for use both indoors and out (IP55 rated).

Its design facilitates improved reading of iCLASS cards. It is also used for reading iCLASS proximity cards that utilize 64-bit diverse keys for two-way authentication; consequently, the reader can read serial numbers in 32-bit format in accordance with ISO standard 14443A. The data is transmitted between the reader and card using encryption.
