Does the Honeywell LYNX L5100 have to be connected to a telephone line?

Last Updated: 11/12/2013

The LYNX Touch L5100 will work without a phone line -- but that requires the user to install either an internet communicator or cellular communicator for the system to be able to signal your central monitoring station.

The L5100 has a built-in telephone dialer.  The telephone cord easily connects to the "Ring" and "Tip" terminals inside your L5100 Control Panel.  However, the system doesn't qualify for Honeywell's Total Connect Service with a telephone connection.

Internet and/or Cellular Communicators are required for Total Connect compatibility.

Users can choose from hardwired or wireless internet communicators.  Hardwired models, like the iLP5, connect to a router using an Ethernet cable.  The L5100-WIFI module can be installed directly onto your control panel, which gives you the ability to then use a wireless internet communicator.

Cellular communicators, like the GSMVLP5-4G, can be installed for wireless communication with your central monitoring station.  Traditionally, cellular communicators are more reliable than internet communicators.
